RILM has extensive coverage of journals, the titles of which can be browsed on this page. Coverage policy defines three categories of journals: core, primary, and other. Note that the search box below searches all journals while the browser provides access only to core and primary journals.

Core journals are the flagship journals of music studies. Core status is assigned to journals by RILM’s national committees. By assigning core status to journals, national committees indicate that they abstract all articles in these journals in a timely fashion.

Primary journals are those deemed significant for music studies. Those articles that fall within RILM’s scope guidelines are abstracted in RILM.

Other journals: Tens of thousands of journal articles on music are entered into the database by RILM committees and by authors around the world from journals that are neither core nor primary. Because many of these journals are not primarily music journals but rather interdisciplinary in character, they are not covered systematically by RILM. Their inclusion reflects efforts to find and abstract articles about music in otherwise hard-to-find resources.
